Hello Readers,

Did you know that O'Fallon Public Library was founded by the O'Fallon Woman's Club? On April 12, 1930, they opened the O'Fallon Woman's Club Public Library on the second floor of the First National Bank building—now home to the O'Fallon History Museum. That original library held just 700 books and was open for only a few hours each week.

From these humble beginnings, their vision grew into the vibrant community hub we know today. This Women's History Month, we celebrate the determined women whose dedication laid the foundation for 95 years of library service. Learn more about our rich history at ofpl.info/about.

The O'Fallon Woman's Club continues its legacy of service today. You can find them at ofallonwomansclub.org

Happy Reading,

Reilly's Pick:

Little Shrew

by Akiko Miyakoshi

The mark of a book that does its job, to me, is one that shows its reader that the most coveted pleasures in life are those of the mundane. When we can close the back cover and breathe a contented sigh, looking at our lives with a revitalized sense of wonder for all that is innately around us — that is the mark of a book that has done its job exceedingly well. While Little Shrew by Akiko Miyakoshi is catalogued as an emergent reader/middle grade book, Little Shrew’s neat-and-tidy life offers a simple message about the stoicism of routine – a very mature concept, if you ask me! His days and weeks tick-tock along like clockwork, but Little Shrew continues to find so many pockets of joy amongst the changing of the seasons. Whether finishing a puzzle for the first time, or sharing a song with good friends, Little Shrew is a delicate reminder to slow down, to see the world with metaphorical wide eyes, and to hold close that which makes us feel alive.

Strange Sally Diamond
by Liz Nugent
This book easily ranks among the top five I’ve ever read. From the very beginning, the story draws you in with its gripping narrative. The main character, Sally Diamond, is suddenly forced to confront a traumatic and horrifying life event. As she navigates through this, we get to know her unique personality and "peculiar ways." Nugent masterfully unfolds the story with a blend of humor, love, and hope.
For an even more immersive experience, I highly recommend the audiobook. Set in Ireland, the authentic Irish accents add depth and richness to the storytelling. Whether you choose to read the book or listen to the audiobook, you won’t be disappointed.
