Dear Library Community,

Our library is honored to be one of just 15 in Illinois selected for a statewide pilot program improving court access. This initiative provides resources to help individuals without lawyers navigate the legal system, access court documents, and even attend court remotely.

As a designated center, we offer trained staff, technology, and legal information to assist with cases like child custody, housing, and more. Stop by to learn how we can help or visit our Legal Assistance page for all the details.

This partnership with Illinois courts aims to reduce barriers by providing access to legal resources in a convenient and welcoming space. Our goal is to make these tools accessible to everyone, especially those facing challenges with technology or transportation.

Maura's Pick:

She Loves to Cook,

She Loves to Eat
by Sakaomi Yuzaki

This manga series centers around two main characters: Yuki Nomoto, a single woman in Tokyo who loves cooking large meals despite her small appetite, and Totoko Kasuga, her neighbor with a big appetite. While the title hints at the story’s focus on delicious food and the joy of sharing it, the series also delves into themes of self-acceptance and building your own found family. With beautifully illustrated Japanese dishes paired with these heartfelt themes, it’s truly a winner! If you’ve never tried reading manga, this series is a perfect starting point. It’s low-stakes, slice-of-life, and wonderfully wholesome.

Staci's Pick:

A Street Cat Named Bob
by James Bowen

This is an inspiring true story about a homeless street musician in London who overcame his drug addiction and transformed his life after finding a stray cat he named Bob. As an animal lover, I was deeply moved by how Bob gave James a renewed sense of purpose, showing that they were stronger together. This heartwarming story is both uplifting and thought-provoking, reminding readers to appreciate the blessings in their own lives that are often taken for granted. Though there are sad moments, they add a layer of realism that stays with you. This has become one of my favorite reads!
