Hello everyone,

Thank you for an incredible summer at the library! We’re thrilled to share that in both July and August, we surpassed 4,000 unique users—our highest numbers yet! Typically, we see between 3,500 to 3,800, so this is a big milestone. We also had over 1,100 kids join our summer events, along with many teens and adults participating. Together, our readers logged over 10,000 hours of reading, helping to combat the “summer slide”—the learning loss that can occur when kids take a break from reading during summer vacation. We couldn’t have achieved this without your amazing support.
Let’s keep the momentum going as we head into the fall!

Keep scrolling to discover some exciting highlights coming up in October!

Happy reading,

This Thing Between Us
by Gus Moreno

This book has it all—love, death, the supernatural, a meddling mother-in-law, and even a possessed digital voice assistant. The story follows Thiago as he navigates the death of his wife Vera, only to find himself ensnared by a malevolent supernatural force that refuses to let him go. What I love most about Moreno's writing is how grounded it feels. You can easily picture yourself as Thiago, trying to make sense of the strange events around him and struggling to escape. Along the way, a colorful cast of supporting characters both help and hinder his quest to free himself from the demon determined to keep him trapped.

Gustavo: The Shy Ghost
by Flavia Z. Drago

If you've ever felt like no one really "sees" you, Gustavo, the Shy Ghost is a must-read! Gustavo is great at all the classic ghostly things—walking through walls, glowing in the dark—but he struggles to make friends because of his shyness. With the Day of the Dead coming up, he’s determined to be noticed and share his love of music. This heartwarming story is perfect for anyone who’s ever felt invisible, reminding us all that being yourself is the best way to truly be seen.

Owlfred's Corner

Join Owlfred each month as we highlight the vibrant OFPL staff! This month, meet Sean, a standout team member of over six years. You'll find him in circulation and adult services, ready with a smile and top recommendations. From the latest manga to must-watch movies or epic video games, Sean's your go-to guy! Stop by and say hi!

What kind of music do you like? I'm all about that early 2000s to 2010 punk rock and alternative vibe!

If you could get rid of one month out of the year, which month would it be?

November, hands down! Let’s just skip straight from Halloween to Christmas.

If you could speak any language, what would it be?

Either Japanese or Korean! Both are high on my list since I'd love to visit those countries someday.

What fictional book world would you be a part of?

No question—I'd dive right into the magical world of Harry Potter!

Other than a great selection of books, what is something our library offers that you find exceptional? Our movie and video game section is top-notch! There’s more than one way to escape into another world, and we've got it covered!
