Hello Library People,

April is National Volunteer Month, and with that in mind I'd like to give a special shoutout to our Friends of the Library group. These folks volunteer their time and talents to make our library great. They raise money to help us go above and beyond what we could otherwise do. And, they help better our community through sponsoring things like Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and our recent meal packing event where we donated roughly 8,000 meals to the local food pantry.

If you are interested in learning more or getting involved yourself, visit our Friends page. You can also get involved by volunteering to work at the Friends' Annual Book Sale happening at the end of the month. The signup is on our homepage.

Thank you, Friends!

The Book With No Pictures

by B.J. Novak

I first saw this book while I was walking through Target with my son. I was drawn to the title so he and I stopped to read it. There I was in the middle of a store laughing hysterically at a "picture" book with no pictures. It immediately went in my cart and became one of my favorite books to read to young children. It is meant to be read aloud. Kids ask for it over and over and adults enjoy sharing it as much as kids enjoy hearing it. I'm not going to say any more about it. Just trust me, if you haven't read it already, you will want to check this one out.

Artificial A Love Story
by Amy Kurzweil

AI can do many things, but who would think it could communicate with the dead? This is exactly what Amy Kurzweil and her father and futurist, Ray Kurzweil, did to connect with her grandfather she never knew. This book is a philosophical approach to memory, technology, and the space in between. More than artificial intelligence, this book leads us on the path to becoming human.

Owlfred's Corner

Join Owlfred each month to discover the vibrant personalities of the OFPL library staff. This edition features Laura our Public Service Manager extraordinaire! She's the one who cracks the whip (metaphorically, of course) and keeps our staff toeing the line, all in the noble pursuit of serving you, the public. So, sit back, relax, and prepare to learn a bit more about our awesome manager!

What kind of music do you like? I love pop, crossover country, 80's rap, and rock from the 70's until now.

If you could get rid of one month out of the year, which month would it be?

August! It is too hot and humid.

If you could speak any language, what would it be? Spanish. I was fluent in college but lost it due to a lack of practice while I was in Europe and then the midwest.

What fictional book world would you be a part of? The Fourth Wing, but really any fantasy book featuring dragons and magical abilities.I would love to be either a dragon, a dragon rider, sorceress, fae, or a shapeshifter.

Other than a great selection of books, what is something our library offers that you find exceptional? Our staff! They care about serving their community.
