March 2023 Newsletter

Hello Library Lovers,

Later in March we aim to launch our first StoryWalk installation at Thoman Park!

A StoryWalk is a movement and literacy boosting project that places an illustrated children’s book, taken apart and displayed page by page, along a walking route in the community. As you stroll down the trail, you're directed to the next page in the story.  Story Walks have been installed in 50 states and 13 countries including, Germany, Canada, England, Bermuda, Russia, Malaysia, Pakistan and South Korea.

The concept was first developed in Vermont as a collaboration between the State Health Department and a local library as a way to convince families to get outside and be active while engaging with literacy.  A huge thanks to our Friends of the Library group for funding this project and to our Parks Department for collaborating with us on this initiative.

Keep an eye out in the coming weeks.  We hope you enjoy!

All the best,

Ryan Johnson
Library Director

Radiation Warfare

The US Radiological Weapons program was a top-priority research and development program by the United States military during the Cold War. However,  little was known about this program until a few years ago. To test the viability of radiological weapons, the US Army planned large-scale human subject experiments including open-air tests of radioactive materials in urban, suburban, and rural areas in North America.
